On this portfolio I am presenting discrete photo series that are currently available for exhibition and / or sale as prints and exhibition installations. I work in film, video and photography, creating a range of art works, mainly based around the idea of "site", "siting" and "situation". These involve exploring the architectural, historical, social and spatial environments of specific places. I make site-specific photo series, short films and installations. My photos are taken using both 35mm film and digital. I studied film and photography at University of Westminster in London. For my complete CV see my website www.artsite.org.uk. I exhibit my work in galleries and art spaces mainly as digital or 35mm slide projections, and occasionally as large format prints. My short films also often use still photographic images. In most cities of the world, monuments occupy public space and blend into the urban environment. Erected to commemorate an event or notable person, with the passage of time the ideas and world views they represent are forgotten or discredited. Yet still these figures remain on the landscape, slowly decaying, visible yet unseen, silent witnesses to our fate.
Monumentalities is an ongoing series of photographs that combine the idea of portrait with that of urban landscape. By isolating the stone or bronze faces of the statues from their environment through portrait photography, I raise the sensation of "the uncanny" - the city full of watching, blank eyes.
